The Tafxnaf films are going to be showing in Leeuwarden!
Tafxnaf, a project of the Valletta 2018 Foundation, was born alongside a Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018 project which was first called Behind the Front Door and which then became Look@me. After the projects grew along parallel but different tracks, it is a great thing indeed that the films made within both are going to be screening together at the Noordelijk Film Festival.
The fun thing is that the Tafxnaf films are going to be screening on two ships — on the 7 and 10 November 2018 aboard the Theaterskip Bald'r, and on
9 November on the Scheepsatelier Eestrom!
Also on 9 November, at the same festival, the new Look@me films are going to have their première. The Tafxnaf participants voted and chose one of their films, Hazel, which will also be shown during the event. And there might be yet another surprise to come... (Photos: Jantina Talsma)
The Tafxnaf films, along with five short films from the Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018 project called Look@me, were shown at the Citadel Cinema, Victoria, Gozo, on Sunday 16 September at 14:30. The screening was followed by a short Q&A with some of the actors and the young filmmakers.
The Tafxnaf films premièred on Saturday 9 June 2018 during the Valletta Film Festival.
The films were shown again on Sunday 10 June at 14:30 and on Friday 15 June at 16:30.v
The screenings were held at the Valletta Campus Theatre along with five films from Look@me a project by Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018 – Valletta's sister European Capital of Culture.
Tafxnaf is a project of the Valletta 2018 Foundation, which invited all Form 2 students, in Malta and Gozo, to write a story, or draw a picture detailing an aspect of their life.
Several schools took part, and many organised PSCD sessions during which the children read their stories to each other.
Many a beautiful, interesting and poignant story came out of this process.
The students voted on the story that they liked best.
The chosen stories were passed on to the young people on the Children's Council, so that they could choose the 25 stories that made it to the next phase: a series of workshops on cinema and story-telling.
Towards the end of the workshops, the participants chose five stories, and have been divided into five groups. Each group will now turn a story into a five-minute film.
However, all the stories written for Tafxnaf will be published on this website, and will be archived at the National Library.
